MARÍA DEL CARMEN ARTIGAS, Professor, Ph.D., University of Virginia; Spanish Literature.

María del Carmen Artigas, Professor of Spanish received her Ph.D in Spanish Literature from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville; and her Ph.D in Latin American History from Bowling Green State University, Ohio. Her specialty is Golden Age Literature and Sephardic Literature of the Golden Age.

She has published five books: Los Sefaraditas: España-El Imperio Otomano Tucumán, Argentina (National University of Tucumán, Argentina) and Antología Sefaradí; (Verbum, Spain), Sansón Nazareno, (Verbum, Spain), Critical and Annotated Edition of La Buena Guarda by Lope de Vega (Verbum, Spain) and Segunda Antología Sefaradí (Verbum Spain).

Dr. Artigas has published articles in Romance Notes (University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill); Bulletin of Spanish Studies (University of Liverpool, England); Revista Maguen-Escudo (Caracas, Venezuela) and Explicacion de Textos Literarios (University of Southern California). Her short stories have appeared in Minority Voices, Sojourner, Backbone, Xavier Review, and Antietam Review.

She has attended numerous national and international congresses and received literary prizes from the Jefferson Society of the University of Virginia and from the University of Detroit.
